Exploring Los Cabos’ Culinary Landscape

Hyatt Ziva’s prime location on the Baja California Peninsula makes it the perfect place to go exploring Los Cabos’ culinary landscape.

What do world travelers say they love most about visiting new places? It’s the local cuisine, of course. Seeking out authentic food is one of the best ways to immerse yourself into the culture of the community. Qualifiers for FFS’ Dream Destination Conference 2018 (DDC18) will do just that while exploring Los Cabos’ culinary landscape.

Admit it, we’ve all been there. There’s that familiar coffee shop across the street or the golden arches on the corner. You’re tempted because it’s a safe bet, but you know you’ll look back and regret it. Food should be part of the adventure. If you don’t try it, deep down you know you’ll be missing half the experience and that’s a real shame.

The DDC18 Trip to Los Cabos, Mexico promises to be full of exciting new culinary adventures.

Street Food Rocks!

A quick stroll around San José del Cabo, just minutes from Hyatt Ziva, you’ll see that food carts are a way of life for the locals. Freshly made tacos and quesadillas make an easy lunch, snack or casual dinner. Pay attention to the more popular carts. The locals are your best judges – they’ve already tried them all so trust their decisions!

There’ll likely be a choice of carne asada, grilled or fried beefsteak, or al pastor, pork cooked on a vertically rotating spit. The latter is commonly served with roasted pineapple. There’s also puerco (pork), tripa (tripe or cow stomach), jamòn (ham), and pollo (chicken).

You may want to go with a local favorite – the Cubana. It’s an “everything” sandwich with ham or bologna, pork, at least one kind of cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, chilies, and mayonnaise. The tostadas, hard-fried corn tortillas, are also popular, since they’re commonly topped with a seafood ceviche.

If you’re looking for a refreshing drink with your meal, pass up the traditional selection of soft drinks and sample some of the popular local drinks. Agua de jamaica is an exhilarating cold tea made from the flowers of the hibiscus plant. It tastes sweet and delicious. Of, try some horchata. It’s a milky-white drink made from rice milk, vanilla and cinnamon. It’s cold, tasty, nutritious and refreshing. Take your pick and enjoy!

Hyatt Ziva Offers a Culinary World Tour

There are more than a dozen restaurants and bars dotting the Hyatt Ziva property. You can grab an overstuffed burrito at Coco Loco Snack Bar or dine on sumptuous seafood at an upscale eatery. Hyatt Ziva offers something for every taste.

A visit to El Cortijo is like a trip to the Spanish countryside. You can share tapas or opt for the signature paella. If you prefer Japanese, the DoZo is the restaurant for you. The sushi bar offers an exciting array of traditional sushi, maki, nigiri and sashimi, crafted from the fresh seafood in abundance here. Or, grab a seat around a teppanyaki grill and watch the chef perform magic with the catch of the day.

Sophisticated French cuisine is the fare at Bon Vivant, a restaurant that caters to adults only. Start with white wine black mussels before enjoying coq au vin or duck magret. Zaffiro serves up Italian food on a picturesque beachfront patio. The restaurant is known for its hand-tossed pizzas finished in a stone oven. But, it also has a wide menu that includes sumptuous pasta dishes and veal ossobuco.

Hyatt Ziva has several casual dining options. One of these is La Hacienda Beach Grill, which offers grilled cuisine with spectacular views of the Sea of Cortez. The family can enjoy a delicious dining experience at La Plaza. Watch the chefs prepare meals at cook stations throughout this buffet-style eatery. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, head to El Molino. Order dishes, such as pollo al pibil (adobo-marinated chicken), off the menu or sample “everything” from the buffet.

Go Ahead, Try It!

Author Neal Donald Walsch said, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” This couldn’t be more true than when it comes to trying new things. Your appreciation for a country’s history and beauty will only be enhanced by sampling its food. Learning the styles and tasting the exciting flavors will help to create more vivid and intense memories of your travels. Far better to say that you didn’t like it than have to wonder what it was like.
